Our Field Trip to Brockway by Guest Bloggers Jack and Owen

Guest Bloggers Jack and Owen recap our field trip to the Brockway Nature Preserve.

In class we have been learning about life cycles and metamorphosis. Mrs. Chapman from the Audubon has been helping our class learn about vernal pools and life cycles, too, as part of our science lessons. When we went on our field trip to Brockway we worked in three stations.

In our first station, we wrote in nature journals.  

In our journal we had to find a letter in nature,
write about something we smell and something we hear.
We had to listen and look quietly like scientists do.

We found signs of beavers and birds on a tree.

We walked on a bridge on the way to the second station.
It was right next to a beaver dam.

We listened to Kevin for the Audubon before we dug
our nets in the water. He taught about some of the things
we might catch.

It was fun. We had to dig the nets on the bottom of the pond
and get some mud and leaves.

We had to look in our nets to see what we caught.
We caught a bunch of bugs, dragonfly nymphs,
tadpoles, and two salamanders.

We put what we found in a bucket so everyone could
 look at what we caught.

We caught thousands of dragonfly nymphs.

In our third station, we used Mrs. Emerson's cameras to take pictures.
We looked for signs of spring and we also made bird nests.  We looked for bird nests
 in nature too.

We had a good time and can't wait to go back in the fall when we are in first grade!
